Build A Skincare Routine to Celebrate The Skin You’re In!
We’re celebrating National Skincare Awareness Month with…you guessed it—skincare!
Building your skincare routine can be daunting. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed with all the products out there on the market, the debates over ingredients, and all the influencers telling you what you need to buy. But from a dermatologist’s perspective your skincare routine should be as simple as possible.
The Only Must-Haves Are These 3 Steps
Think of your skincare routine as a kind of cycle. Every step has its own unique purpose, while complementing the other steps. No one step is more important than the other as they all function best when they are alongside the other steps in the correct order.
Start Your Day With SPF
Some people choose to wash and moisturize before putting on their SPF every day. While this can be beneficial, it’s not necessary. If you have particularly sensitive and dry skin, or you find that there’s no need to go through the steps of washing your face in the morning, then we recommend just waking up, applying your sunscreen, and walking out the door!
Make sure your sunscreen is broad-spectrum (protects from both UVA and UVB) and at least SPF 30. You should also re-apply it throughout the day as the protection degrades about every couple hours. We have a variety of sunscreen options for you to choose from in our custom Miami skincare line.
Wash It Off With A Cleanser
Yes, applying SPF is important—but so is taking it off! One prominent issue people experience with wearing sunscreen is how pore-clogging it can be. This is especially true if you’re applying the right amount (way more product than most people think!) and re-applying throughout the day.
Remember when we said skincare routines are cyclical? Sunscreen protects your skin from the sun, while an effective cleanser prevents sunscreen buildup and breakouts as a result of that buildup or other bacteria, oil, and dirt.
Therefore, the best facial cleanser for your routine at the end of the day is the one that cleanses your skin effectively. We recommend double cleansing to best remove sunscreen and/or makeup, and we also recommend our very own cleansers!
Our Sensitive Me Cleanser is one of the best facial cleansers in Miami and it’s great for all skin types. It’s gentle, but it works.
Lock In Hydration With A Moisturizer
While cleansing your skin is of the utmost importance, it has its own drawbacks that need combatting. Cleansing gets rid of excess oil, bacteria, and dirt, but it simultaneously strips away the natural moisture barrier in your skin. This is why your skin will feel drier and maybe a little tight if you don’t apply moisturizer right after cleansing. A skincare routine is a cycle, after all.
After cleansing, you may decide to do a mask or apply a serum with active ingredients to help a certain skin issue. Whatever you decide, you should always apply a moisturizer afterward. One of our best face moisturizers is the Ultra Benefits moisturizer. This is a light moisturizing cream with the antioxidant lipochroman™, which protects from environmental aging. This product also contains peptides and brighteners to visibly improve lines, wrinkles, and age spots. Our Ultra Benefits cream is 20% off this month only!
