What is Sculptra?
Sculptra is a filler that is used when the appearance of facial fat loss (lipoatrophy), nasolabial folds, lines framing your mouth (marionette lines), sunken eyes, hollowed cheeks, or indented chin surfaces becomes noticeable. Sculptra is made from a synthetic injectible material called poly-L-lactic acid (PLL).
Sculptra is able to replace collagen and because of this it is able to offer subtle results over time, giving you a more natural looking appearance. Many prefer this natural look and if interested you should schedule a cosmetic consultation in order to determine how many treatments you will need.
How does it work:
First the are to be treated is cleaned thoroughly with an antiseptic. Then Sculptra is injected in small amounts, with a fine needle, and the results can be achieved almost immediately. If patients have a fine threshold of pain a topical anesthetic as well as lidocaine can be used to offer a less painful experience.
Patients may experience pain, swelling, redness, and even bruising after the injections. This is normal and over time any discomfort will subside. It is important to let your doctor know of any allergies you may have, or if you have history of keloids or hypertrophic scarring.
